Mental and Physical Wellbeing talk at GIG International School, Singapore

Namadwaar Singapore has established and been maintaining a good relationship with GIG International School, through events and workshops. Examples include Samskruti Art Competition, and workshops by Dr Jananiji for teachers and students alike. These programmes have been conducted under “Joy of Sharing”, a Namadwaar initiative. Recently, a student from GIG participated and won in an international yoga competition. On this eve (22nd Aug 2025), GIG invited Namadwaar to give a short talk on mental and physical wellbeing.

This short interactive session was conducted by Raghuramanji and Sanjanaji. Lillyji was also present, and captured pictures and videos. A range of concepts were discussed while engaging the enthusiastic and receptive children. First the connection between the mind, body, and breath was discussed. The children jogged at the spot for about a minute and were asked to notice their breath. They noted that their rapid breathing was due to the exercise. Similarly, changes in breath and bodily actions due to mental duress were also elaborated on. The main concept was that in a meditative state, the body is still, mind quiet, and breath slow. This was explained in a simple way, and the children answered questions correctly.

Children were taught to meditate, to do “Brahmari Udgeet”, and to chant the “aum” mantra, all while taking deep breaths. This was met with eager participation from the children and some teachers.

Later, the topics of emotional regulation, optimism vs pessimism, and perception were discussed. Again, the children actively participated and interacted, answering many questions correctly.

Finally, the concept and importance of affirmations was explained, where the children learnt how to affirm themselves and cultivate a positive mindset. After the talk, the student who won in the yoga competition demonstrate a few yoga asanas.
